TOEFL is one of the language proficiency tests. It is intended to measure the test taker’s understanding (competence) and accomplishment (performance) of English. For students, the test is generally a part of the preparations to study abroad, more specifically North America where the test originated. As UMY has deep concerns on the importance of English in the globalizing age, it sets a cut-off score as the minimum standard institutional score for the students to graduate. For that purpose, a TOEFL preparation course is needed.
